NYMS – HIGH ROCK PARK, STATEN ISLAND – Checklist from July 1, 2012

After late June rains and temps in the 90′s, we found more than 60 species of mushrooms at High Rock, including 5 Amanitas, Lactarius hygrophoroides!, Cantharellus cinnabarinus and C. minor, and lots more!

We’ll be going there two weeks earlier this year (2015) – We can see how the season is developing by noting the plants in bloom on July 1, 2012 – Helleborine (an orchid), spotted wintergreen, Rhododendron maximum, swamp azalea – also wineberries ripe in the sun [not this year, however, not yet, anyway]…..also a dwarf raspberry (red and ripe)…..We’ll see what June 14th has to offer………
